LEAP Options: Plan, Track and Manage Long-Dated Trades

LEAP options (Long-term Equity AnticiPation Securities) are exchange-listed options with expirations more than one year away. Because they are held for months, LEAPs reward a written plan, patient position management and accurate record-keeping more than fast execution.

Key characteristics of LEAP options

  • Expiration typically 12–36 months out
  • Lower daily time decay than short-dated contracts early in their life
  • Higher premium per contract, so position sizing matters
  • Often used as a stock-replacement or long-term directional position

Why LEAP traders need a process

A LEAP trade can span several earnings cycles. Without a record of your original thesis, targets and entries, it is easy to drift from the plan, average down without intent, or forget why you entered.

How SwingLEAP supports LEAP traders

  • Write a trade plan with strategy, contract, strike, expiration, capital and thesis
  • Set your own underlying-stock entry and exit targets and get alerted as price approaches them
  • Log multiple entries and partial exits against one position
  • See realized and unrealized P&L and review how your LEAP setups have performed historically

SwingLEAP is a planning and record-keeping tool. It does not recommend trades, predict prices, or execute orders.
